This album is a visual exploration of traditional Sikh culture in India, presented in large color photographs by Magnum photographer Raghu Rai. Here a gaggle of red-capped youngsters sit at lunch, in an elite school for teaching a modern education with traditional ways; white-turbaned American Sikh disciples sing hymns; cattle are still driven to market; and television aerials float in a dusty sky over the capital of Punjab. Khushwant Singh, the author of Oxford University Press's two-volume A History of the Sikhs introduces the book with a concise overview of the Sikhs and their efforts to keep their martial traditions alive in modern India.
