Bhangra is an aerobic high energy folk dance that comes from Northern India. Traditionally it's danced and performed during the harvest season in Spring around the time of Baisakhi. Many of the dance steps come from village life experience and the farmer's work in the fields. The main beat of bhangra is set by a drum called the Dhol. Dance everyday and get a workout without the boredom - Bhangra strengthens and tones your muscles, increases your stamina and gives you a daily cardio workout that is fun.
Even though Ravi was born in America, she went to Middle and High School in India where she was introduced to Bhangra. The love affair began and she's been dancing Bhangra ever since. Over the last 12 years she has travelled the world teaching, performing and spreading her love of bhangra to everyone she meets. She has worked with Izzat da Punjab, a local bhangra troupe, since 1998 performing throughout the United States. She lives in New Mexico with her husband and 3 dogs.
